Tennessee volunteer dies after dive into Viet Cong well
A Tennessee youth volunteering for a search inside a Saigon area well was shot twice at 30 feet by a Viet Cong guerrilla. He bore his wounds without a scream as medics attended him and U S soldiers reinforced the opening with rifles trained on the shaft. After 90 minutes the volunteers left by helicopter.

Wakeman Man Dies After Car Rammed by Semitrailer
An elderly Wakeman resident, Glen W. Beecher 75, was killed Thursday when his car failed to stop at a downed stop sign and was rammed by an eastbound semitrailer at U.S. 20 and Ohio 303 in Wakeman. The truck jackknifed and blocked both lanes. Beecher’s car was a total loss. The driver, Roger Smith 23, of Heidelberg Mississippi, was treated for knee cuts. Beecher was a retired farmer, deacon, Grange member, and milestone husband of Minnie Beecher, with two daughters and seven grandchildren. Funeral arrangements are set for Sunday at Wakeman Congregational Church.
