Downtown study may cover 28 blocks in Norwalk center

Norwalk planning panel approves a $6 000 contract with Lawrence A Alexander & Co Inc of New York City for a downtown survey to span a 28 block area bounded by the Norfolk and Western and New York Central tracks and Milan Woodlawn and Bank Summit Oak Streets. The study may focus on East and West Main Streets with six months to complete. The chamber to finance 60 percent of the fee and city council ultimate zoning responsibility is noted.

Ex-Teacher Joins City Commission in Norwalk

William Reynolds a retired Norwalk High mathematics teacher was appointed to the planning and zoning commission by Mayor Harold Finch Tuesday night filling the vacancy from S D Dimons death. Reynolds has long career in education including superintendent and principal roles in Ruggles district and Arecibo Puerto Rico.

Norwalk Township Approves Building Permit Fees

Norwalk Township citizens approve a new zoning code with residential permit fees set at 7.50 and commercial permits at a minimum of 10. The fee for commercial permits will be 1 per 1000 of evaluated value, minimum 10. The committee also discussed junk yards and dumping and whether a last meeting will occur. The next meeting is 8 p.m. at the trustees’ office on Whittlesey Avenue following the trustees’ meeting.

Hearing Delay in Wil lard Rubber Strike Contempt Case

A Thursday contempt hearing for 79 Pioneer Rubber Co Striking workers in Willard was continued by Huron Common Pleas Court Judge Robert J. Vetter after union and company talks mediated by Harry Weber showed progress. The continuance was requested Tuesday by union attorney Henry E. Young and placed under advisement following negotiations at noon. No new date was set.
