Homicide Ruled in Death of Wakeman Man Wheeler

The body of David E. Wheeler, 48, of Wakeman, was found in a Bowling Green cornfield after he disappeared in September. Wood County coroner Roger A. Pearce ruled the death a homicide. A 16 gauge shotgun and a wallet with $250 were found on the body. Wheeler is survived by his wife, a Wake man Elementary teacher, and three children in college.

Youth Corps funds sought for area students program

The Erie County Board of Education and Erie Huron CAC request 82500 for a Neighborhood Youth Corps project across six districts including Berlin Milan Margaretta Kellys Island Perkins St Marys and Vermilion. Funds planned for school sessions March 1 to May 31 and Sept 1 to Oct 31 plus a June 6 to Aug 31 summer program. seventy five students per session at 1.25 dollars per hour.

Hold Youth A Detroit Boy After Bellevue Gas Theft

A 16 year old Detroit youth is held in the Huron County Juvenile Detention quarters awaiting Michigan authorities guidance. He and a companion were arrested by the State Highway Patrol after allegedly failing to pay for gasoline at a Bellevue area service station earlier this week.

Fire damages Norwalk home of Oates family

The Route 61 residence of Mr. and Mrs. Roger Oates near Laylin Road suffered 2000 to 2500 in fire damage caused by an electric blanket. Six family members including four children and Mrs. Oates' sister escaped with help from a babysitter Charlene Chase as firefighters arrived at 9 35 and stayed about 90 minutes.

Air Losses Near Korea War Level

UPI reports that in the Vietnam air war the United States has lost 469 fixed wing planes and 4 helicopters over North Vietnam since Feb 7 1965. Total U S aircraft losses in five years are 1 172, with helicopter losses pushing toward 1 800, compared to 3 001 losses in Korea.

Retrial Begins In Mishap Suit

The retrial of an $87 000 suit filed by Lewis Martin of New London against Robert McConnell also of New London moved into its second day in Huron County Common Pleas Court. The case stems from the death of Stephen Martin after a June 1962 Route 162 Lorain County crash involving McConnell. The defense cites the guest statute while the term willful and wanton misconduct is contested by both sides in opening statements.

Plan 24 Hour Lenten Rituals Across Norwalk Churches

Norwalk churches announce Ash Wednesday observances starting at midnight with a 24 hour prayer ritual at First Methodist Church. Sixty five Methodists will join in half hour prayer blocks. Snow Removal Begins as Winds Drive Snowfall Higher

City crews in Norwalk battle drifting snow with a 21 man 12 hour shift crew clearing downtown streets. Two additional inches fell on top of five inches recorded Monday while melt from Sunday totals .63 inches. High Sunday reached 27 with 10 degree overnight low. Morley Price says another plow will join this afternoon as crews work to keep streets open.
