The two leading Republican hopefuls Richard Nixon and George Romney briefly encounter each other in Concord New Hampshire. Nixon plans a chartered flight to Green Bay Wisconsin for support in the Wisconsin primary.
Washington based six month study by the National Advisory Commission on Civil Disorders fuels pessimism among some members who warn of further racial separation and alienation in the United States. Privately they foresee continued upheaval despite no public forecast of more violence. London critiques Wilson White House visit as ill timed amid Vietnam war and Britain’s waning global role.
Kyodo and Mainichi Shimbun say Seoul reports the United States and North Korea have agreed to release the entire crew of the captured intelligence ship USS Pueblo. The KCIA has not commented. The development follows ongoing diplomatic negotiations and escalation concerns.

The six county offices up for election include commissioner seats with two to be chosen, clerk of courts, treasurer, sheriff, engineer, coroner, recorder and prosecutor, with several candidates already filed and others waiting.
City council meetings will stay in the fire station chamber through February due to an unfurnished new city hall room. Also reported: Robert Sexton resigns after 20 years at Citizens National Bank to move to Phoenix, with family details. a two-vehicle crash on Old State Road and Route 18. a preliminary hearing for two charged with first degree manslaughter in a baby’s death. a car fire on Summit Street blamed on a gas leak. and a bar association meeting to discuss prosecuting anti-poverty worker Hajduk for practicing law without a license.
Secretary of State Dean Rusk says the bombing pause was a gesture to spur talks but North Vietnam shows no real interest in negotiations. William Bundy notes Hanoi and Haiphong have not been bombed for 18 days and suggests peace efforts may resume if conditions allow.
Bronson Township trustees approve a 350 dollar appropriation to install street lights in Olena on Route 250. Alfred Kluding says the number of lights is undecided and Ohio Edison will be involved. residents hoped for at least seven lights and debate over incorporation faded. Bronson Townships in Huron County receive higher local government allocations this year.
