Khomeini Returns to Iran Demands Control of Nation
Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini, greeted by about 2 million supporters in Tehran after nearly 15 years in exile, called for control of Iran and the ouster of foreign advisers. He urged unity, warned the shah’s return, and postponed naming a revolutionary Islamic council while thousands filled the capital’s streets and the Beheshte Zehra cemetery.
