Defecting Priest Returns To U S
Harold M. Koch a 35 year old former Catholic priest who defected to the Soviet Union says he will return to the United States after Christmas to visit his ailing father in Chicago and perhaps marry. He described himself as an American with a great love for his country and said his right to free speech led him to leave Moscow only reluctantly. Koch had appeared in a university town after the Soviets hesitated to let him go, citing a supposed need to explain his departure due to his father's health. His parents in Chicago expressed relief and prayers for his return. Koch had publicly cited fascism and antiwar repression as reasons for seeking asylum last September on Soviet television.
