In Baltimore a 62 year old retired Air Force brigadier general Lacy Van Buren Murrow brother of journalist Edward R Murrow died from a self inflicted gunshot inside the Lord Baltimore Hotel. A shotgun and a note were found near the body.
Attorney F Lee Bailey says he will defend a 33 year old man confined to Bridgewater State Hospital since 1964 who claims to be the Boston strangler. The man faces numerous lesser charges including sexual assaults and will go to trial January 9. He has reportedly admitted throttling 11 women in Greater Boston from 1962 to 1964.

Mrs Guadalupe Zella Gallegos and her 13 year old son Victor J Gallegos died after a two car crash at the State 4 and Route 547 intersection five miles southeast of Bellevue. They were en route to Marion to visit Guadalupe's mother.
Reports from Belgrade Bucharest and Peking claim U S warplanes hit Hanoi during the December 13 14 raids damaging the Romanian embassy and other targets. The U S denies bombing Hanoi saying strikes hit military targets outside the city and suggests anti aircraft fire or missiles caused any damage.
Britain wins a selective but mandatory UN sanctions vote targeting Rhodesia's exports and oil. Abstentions came from Russia France Bulgaria and Mali as African nations press for stronger measures while Rhodesia faces renewed economic pressure and past league responses are recalled.
The Norwalk Chamber of Commerce supports a $6,000 downtown study proposed by City Solicitor Frederick Waugh. The chamber would cover about 60 percent, with the Planning and Zoning Commission involved but not taking charge. The council previously approved a resolution in favor.
Democratic governors voiced anti Johnson sentiments after Republican gains but the president invited them to a meeting to reason together. Harold Hughes Iowa said the likely date would be after Christmas with no set schedule. Johnson reportedly talked by telephone to quell the revolt.
Paul Williams, 59, of 381/2 Oak Street, Norwalk, told patrolmen a buck ran into his car on U.S. 20 just west of the State Police post at 5:50 p.m. Friday. The deer died. no damage to the car. Williams took the deer home.
