Joseph A. Hillman, 45, of Norwalk, is in fair condition at Fisher Titus Memorial Hospital after a Thursday morning collision on South Main Street Willard. He sustained a fractured wrist a dislocated knee and a fractured leg while working for Price Construction Co. Miss Judy Henry 21 Willard drove the car. Police say no construction signs were posted and no charges have been filed as investigators continue.
Principal Ervin Ultican reports three USPS parcels containing grade and attendance cards to the Cuyahoga County Board of Education were lost or damaged. One package arrived. the other two vanished, forcing manual grading on existing cards. The school faces about a $1000 loss to the mailer and ongoing inconvenience.
Norwalk and other Ohio municipalities face a combined burden from the 1965 police and firemen pension fund with debts totaling 420 million. Norwalk owes 558,693 for police and fire liabilities, while Willard carries 104,506 in police debt and no fire debt. John Coleman of the Ohio Municipal League says cities have 20 years to repay and may seek legislative relief including raising taxes or reducing interest rates.
Norwalk Post Office expects over a million pieces of mail during the Christmas season led by incoming mail from out of town. Postmaster Russell Gfell says volume will peak around December 19 as local mail rises. overtime replaces temporary hires, with 43 workers onsite and only two temporary staff.
A break in the eight inch water transmission line near Grove Street and Park Avenue in New London was fixed by water department workers from 9 15 p m to 2 a m The line fed from a 250000 gallon storage tank and fractured due to ground settling No service interruption occurred as other lines carried the load under the observation of Fred Monroe superintendent of the water department
Three third grade boys who refused to return from recess to Maplehurst School spent hours missing before parents and police intervened. Principal William Ruby sent runners and called police after 2 pm. The trio returned to the school at 4 45 pm and were held briefly before going home.

Walter Elias Disney died at St. Joseph Hospital in Burbank from acute circulatory failure after surgery for a lung tumor. The creator of Mickey Mouse and founder of Disneyland won 29 Academy Awards and inspired global condolence messages. He was born in Chicago on December 5 1901 and raised near Marceline Missouri.
