Premier Levi Eshkol quits amid Lavon affair dispute stirring rumors that David Ben Gurion may step back into Israel's leadership. Eshkol, 69, led the Labor Mapai party since June 24, 1963, resigning Monday night.
In Ottawa the House of Commons approved a new flag featuring a single red maple leaf on a white field with vertical red borders. The vote occurred under closure, and the debate was sharp as proponents and critics clashed over the symbol and its meaning for national identity.

An annual city firemen dinner was interrupted by a 6 35 p m alarm at Milton Smith residence 69 Newton Street. A car back seat fire caused the alert. Firemen returned to the table within 20 minutes and continued the meal. The dinner is funded by Frank S Fisher and George Schild.
Henry S. Dalton 78 a Wakeman area farmer and noted Holstein cattle and Percheron horse breeder died after a farm fall eight days earlier. He served as Wakeman Township trustee and on the Huron County Fair Board with deep local and state renown. Funeral 2:30 p.m. Friday at Gerber and Son Funeral Home Wakeman with Masonic service Thursday evening. burial in Wakeman cemetery. He born Oct 10 1886 in Cleveland and lived in Wakeman most of his life. survived by three daughters five sons a sister two brothers 33 grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. His wife Bertha died 1963 and son Harry 1961.
In Chicago two 19 year olds were charged with grand theft after police seized them Monday while attempting to remove a 400 pound safe from Holy Name Cathedral during 6 a.m. Mass.
The Ohio Senate, in its busiest special session day, may extend into a seventh week as Minority Leader Frank King challenges routine rule waivers. If House Democrats block waivers, bills on judicial salaries, lieutenant governor voting rights, and a constitutional convention could be delayed, with votes planned for today and Thursday.
