Norwalk chamber begins registrations for its first residential Christmas decorations contest in two years. Mrs Kenneth Conway chair says the event favors DIY outside decor not by professionals. Two categories include most beautiful and most unusual with first prizes of 25 dollars and second prizes.
Voting opens Friday for Norwalk Area United Fund directors. Any donor of $1 or more may vote via ballots at Citizens National Bank Huron County Banking Co or by clipping the ballot. Voting closes 3 p.m. December 27 with results announced December 28 at the Columbia Gas Co office. Ten candidates named including Edward Arlin and James Ramsey seeking re election.
Local brief items report openings sales and service notices. Doris Livengood runs Quickies Open 118 E Main with Tue and Thu hours. Norwalk Junior High and Plastic Molders Supply had unlocked doors found by police. A Ralph Speigel insurance office opens in the Norwalk Theatre Building with refreshments on December 14.
The New London Hospital board accepted the resignation of William Gilbert as treasurer due to other business obligations. A replacement will be announced soon. The board approved the usual annual employee bonus. Jaycees set up a Santa house on the downtown square for December 17 with visit times 1 3 p m and 6 8 p m.
The Reflector corrected a collision report noting Marguerite Y Tinker was cited for failure to yield the right of way, not Rachel Kovacs, for incidents from December 19 to 23 and a follow up on December 24. Also reported minor injuries at Fisher Titus Memorial Hospital and a parking lot collision on South Linwood Avenue involving Johnie Short and Harry Williams III.
In New York the United Nations dining room barred dancing after Kenya’s party marked its independence anniversary. When about six couples danced, the dining room manager cited rules prohibiting dancing as damage to the red carpeting.
An Ali talia Airlines training jet crashed on a hillside near San Pietro Vernotico in southern Italy killing the student pilot aboard. The flight originated from Brindisi Airport.
