Ohio imposes new graduated personal income tax in 1972
Ohio begins a new graduated income tax on January 1 with rates from 2 1 2 percent to 3 percent for higher incomes. The budget also introduces severance taxes and a quarterly corporate tax. An annual federal style return is required. a family of four with $100 weekly earnings would pay 36 cents weekly. A separate item notes small earthquakes in San Francisco East Bay.

Four Toledo brothers and teen girl die in car train crash
Four Myles brothers aged 17, 16, 13 and 9 and Marilyn Donbrosky 16 of Temperance Mich died when their car was hit by a Penn Central train returning from a church meeting in Toledo. The engineer did not see the car. A mass funeral was set for Tuesday.

Sarnoff dies at 80 a titan of radio and TV
New York UPI reports David Sarnoff, head of RCA, died at age 80 from complications of an ear infection. Born in 1891 in Uzhan near Minsk, he immigrated to the United States in 1900 and helped launch radio and television, rising to RCA chairman and guiding NBC creation.
