Ohio crime rate climbs beyond national average in 1970

Ohio residents faced a surge in serious crime in 1970 with about one in forty affected by murder rape burglary robbery or auto theft. The national crime rate rose 11 percent while Ohio climbed 13.4 percent as U S Attorney General John Mitchell noted the continuing rise in total crimes.

Community rally funds Teri Sue's trip to Miami Beach

Teri Sue Smith and her parents head Friday to Our Little Miss World in Miami Beach funded by local donations. Four Penn Central Cars Derail Near New London

Four westbound Penn Central freight cars derailed early this morning on the east side of New London near the Hiles signal tower. The derailment, caused by a car failure, blocked tracks with coke breeze and soda ash. trains were rerouted via Toledo and Crestline, with service expected to resume by 1 p.m. No injuries were reported.
