Cincinnati officials announce the school board will issue free bus tokens to about 1,000 students in private and parochial schools to meet the fair bus law obligation effecting next month. The measure aims to transport private and public pupils alike.
UPI reports U.S. Senator George Murphy is set to leave Hollywood Presbyterian Hospital Wednesday after surgery to remove a malignant tumor from his vocal cords. His son Dennis says doctors are confident the cancer was completely removed. In Washington, Rev. Henry J. Brone testified before a Senate urban decay inquiry saying there is nothing intrinsically wrong with numbers and noting the joy of a lottery win in a New York slum playground.

UPI reports Congress faces weeks of debate as House and Senate Armed Services Committees clash over reserve call up authority. The House panel approved a reserve bill of rights to block merging the Army reserve into the National Guard while granting the president authority to call up to 133 000 reservists and 56 000 guard members under certification of necessity.
Washington reports President Johnson urged to consider raising corporate income taxes as a means to curb inflation. Rep. Al Ullman pushes a 4 percent corporate tax hike with suspending the 7 percent investment tax credit and a 5 percent excess profits tax to slow prices. Truman fears depression if rates rise. Market notes volatility on Wall Street.
Parker M. Orr, guardian for Dedaimia Whitney, filed a brief opposing a motion to strike by Edwin W. Price in Huron County Common Pleas Court. Price seeks $750,000 over a Reflector-Herald article about teen alcohol purchases in Norwalk. Orr argues guardians may present defenses beyond a general denial, despite the guardian’s reply mirroring the newspaper’s.

WILLARD The Grand Jury will consider facts in the car bicycle accident that killed the Eldon Murray family of four on Fort Ball Road July 16. Prosecutor Frederick F. Waugh said the case will go to the Grand Jury in September as two motions in the reckless operation case against Eugene R. White were heard. White pleaded innocent and seeks a jury trial. a 60 day continuance was granted and a venue change denied.
Madalyn Murray O'Hair, an avowed atheist, sues Cleveland lawyer Walter Haffner in U S District Court alleging he diverted donations from her tax the church campaign. She seeks $10,000 in damages, an audit of his accounts, and the return of campaign funds after claims he opened her personal mail in 1965.
