In Heflin Alabama floodwaters from 16 inches of rain in 48 hours inundated areas marooning 27 people in seven feet of water. A Greyhound bus was swept off a highway while National Guardsmen reinforced a dam above homes and one youth was reported missing.
Cleveland police pursue arson suspects in a six day series targeting non striking workers tied to St. Luke's Hospital. The latest fire damaged the home of a hospital official, marking the sixth act in a week long attack pattern.
The 1967 Ohio State Fair opened with the largest opening day turnout in fair history as officials estimated about 191000 visitors. Two mishaps marred the Thursday kickoff but failed to dampen an enthusiastic opening.
The House voted 202 to 194 to authorize 596 million in military aid and 2.2 billion in economic aid for the year starting July 1, reducing President Johnsons 3.4 billion request by 563 million after a week of debate.

Columbus reports the state legislature moved toward adjournment with a potential Saturday session. The House approved Senate amendments to 19 bills including solid waste regulation and meat processing licenses. The Senate set to vote on permissive county taxes as reforms in unemployment benefits pass.

A .22 caliber rifle and a safe with over 80 dollars in quarters were stolen from Edward Verburg’s rural New London home. Deputies say burglars broke in by breaking a rear door, ransacked drawers, and left with the items plus an Italian nickel a rare half-dime and the deed to the house.
