Refinery Explosion and Fires injure workers near Toledo

In Oregon near Toledo an explosion followed by two fires at the Standard Oil refinery injures at least 11 people. Ten treated at St. Charles Hospital and one at the plant dispensary. the unit had just begun operation producing up to 49 000 barrels per day.

Soviet Embassy Stormed in Beijing by Red Guards

The Soviet Union said over 100 Red Guards crashed the Soviet Embassy and consulate in Peking, breaking windows, splintering furniture, and burning documents. Gas Well Near Collins Makes A Jet Like Start

Huron County farmers J. Jarrett and partners Jack and John Liles struck a natural gas well on the R J Jarrett farm in Collins. Initial pressure topped 1500 pounds with 3 670 feet drilled. The well began gushing around 1 30 pm and was capped by nightfall. Gas is likely to flow long term, offering about 400 dollars daily income to the trio after Kubat Oil Company takes its one eighth share. Oil production may come later if oil can be drawn, but gas development is the present focus.

Five Die In Pearl Lake Area Fire With Father Found Shot

Five members of a Pearl Lake area family were found dead in a house fire after father David Haskins, 32, was found outside tied to a post and shot by intruders. He told police four or five intruders entered about 1 a.m., beat him, and set the home ablaze before fleeing. State crime bureau assisting Stearns County sheriff. Pearl Lake lies about 18 miles southwest of St Cloud.

Chlorine Gas Incident At Norwalk Water Plant

Norwalk city employee John Timman, 60, of 66 N Prospect St, was overcome by chlorine gas while changing a tank at the Norwalk water filtration plant around 9 p.m. Thursday. He was treated at Fisher-Titus Memorial Hospital in fair condition after needing oxygen. officials say a leaking valve on a 150-pound tank caused the incident with no explosion.
