Ohio Faces Steady Drought As Counties Seek Disaster Aid

Gov Rhodes asked the U S Agriculture Secretary to designate 16 counties as drought disaster areas amid persistent dryness. State climatologist Ted Pierce notes the May July period left less than 50 percent normal rainfall in key Lake Erie and Athens to Cincinnati corridors while Columbus area shows deep soil moisture deficit but not yet critical. Norwalk Schools Schedule New Student Meetings

Norwalk school offices will open daily from 8 30 a m to 4 p m for scheduling new students. Incoming freshmen from the local junior high will receive schedule cards at 9 30 a m on September 3 in the high school auditorium. New ninth through twelfth graders will get schedules at 2 30 p m on September 3 in the senior high study hall.
