Chessie Seaboard merger threatened by ICC demands
Chessie System Inc and Seaboard Coast Line Industries warned Tuesday that the planned CSX Corp merger could be aborted if the Interstate Commerce Commission favors demands from rival railroads Norfolk and Western and the Southern. The deal would unite six rail systems with 27000 miles of track from Michigan to Florida, pending further ICC hearings through autumn and a final recommendation next year.

Sohio signs deal to sell Alaskan gas reserves
Standard Oil of Ohio says it will sell two trillion cubic feet of Prudhoe Bay gas to Northern Natural Gas Co in Omaha. Delivery begins after the proposed 4,800 mile Alaska Highway pipeline is completed, expanding supply to lower 48 consumers. Whitehouse notes total Alaska reserves around 6.5 trillion cubic feet.
