Norwalk High adopts closed lunch policy for freshmen sophomores

The Norwalk Board of Education voted to bar freshmen and sophomores from leaving school grounds during lunch after complaints from about 20 downtown merchants about loitering and property damage. Principal Thomas Tattan says the change will curb truancy and create a more academic environment under supervision, while juniors and seniors may still eat in the cafeteria or leave campus. The schedule adds a third 30 minute lunch period from 10:30 until 12:14, with two extra cafeteria staff and more seating including 10 tables and 120 chairs.
