The Norwalk Park and Recreation Board sponsors an annual arts and crafts show from 7 to 9 30 p m Thursday at the Recreation Center. Grade school youngsters display summer handiwork and judging occurs in the afternoon with prizes and ribbons for top entries. The public is welcome in the evening.
The grand jury report pins the Hough race riots on Communists and other organized groups. Gov. James A. Rhodes says new riot related laws will be first order of business when the legislature convenes in January.
In Little Rock Jim Johnson former Arkansas Supreme Court justice who led the states white citizens council won the Democratic runoff against Frank Holt and will face millionaire Winthrop Rockefeller in November.
Detroit reports the death of Charlie Dressen at age 67 after hospitalization for an acute kidney infection. He had been in serious condition but improving when he died of a heart attack.
Placard waving students demonstrated against South Vietnamese Premier Nguyen Cao Ky as he began a state visit in Manila, Philippines, a staunch anti communist ally.

The House approved a weakened civil rights bill 259 to 157 after 12 days of debate. It exempts most housing from the ban on discrimination and targets block busting, while voting down a Justice Department school desegregation suit provision.
Norwalk Democratic councilman Brian Schaffer resigns from the fourth ward seat effective Monday after announcing a job change. He and wife Pauline plan to move to the Cleveland area this weekend to take a civil service position with the Cleveland Transit System. Delbert Crawford, council president, received the letter this week. The council has 30 days to fill the vacancy. if not, the mayor may appoint a successor. Schaffer was elected last November to a two year term.
Norwalk city schools ran a 101 942 deficit in 1965 66 after spending 1 422 350 62 on 1 370 408 in income. The report by Clerk Joseph Williamson to the board Tuesday shows a 75 656 surplus the prior year and notes a 50 000 advance on general property taxes due in 1966 67.
The Norwalk City School District board voted to move the September meeting up a week to consider an operating levy and prepare documents before a September 14 filing deadline. Board President Dale Olsen noted the district is reviewing finances after a July budget showed a deficit of 68,830, largely from capital expenditures.

A 26 year old Norwalk man Dewey Varney of 151 Milan Road lost control on a curve on Washington Road west of Norwalk causing his car to climb an embankment and roll onto its top at 5 30 p m He sustained only a head cut and a back ache and did not seek hospital treatment
The Planning and Zoning Commission votes unanimously to zone 10 acres of Norwalk's industrial park for manufacturing but warns one parcel is separated and calls it spot zoning. City council hears Sept. 20 on rezoning the full 34 acres while public objections were not filed.
Kathie Sanders 16 of 10 W League St. writes she would rather see her cousin Sandy Brown and Terry Canterbury attend the Beatles show. Sandy, 13, has polio since age three and cannot walk. Kathie, who aims to be a nurse, gladly passes the tickets to the two and hopes the Beatles visit Norwalk for kids like Sandy.
