Free Postage For Letters To Servicemen In Combat Areas

U.S. Representative Donald D. Clancy of Cincinnati sponsors a bill to grant free postage on letters to military personnel in combat zones and to allow reduced rates for packages sent to garrisoned servicemen.

Bragan Fired. Hitchcock Named Braves Manager

Atlanta Braves president John McHale announced at a news conference that manager Bobby Bragan was fired and Billy Hitchcock was chosen to succeed him. Bragan, age 48, had managed the club since 1963 and a change had been predicted earlier in the season.

Juvenile Court sees July case surge over June figures

Judge Russell T. Antrim notes July juvenile court cases more than doubled June totals with 18 delinquency, 19 traffic, and 14 adult cases. He cites patterns since 1960 and says increases largely involve 16 or 17 year old youths seeking independence. The rise is driven mainly by non delinquency matters and referrals from parents.

Green Springs Board grants Shafer one year leave of absence

Green Springs Board of Education votes 4 to 1 to grant George R. Shafer a one year leave of absence despite pending charges and a 30 day jail sentence. Shafer’s contract will be reviewed next year to determine his position. A new football coach was hired conditionally for the coming year.

Case Postponed In Farm Bureau Suit In Huron Court

The suit by Bernard L Maerkisch of North Fairfield against the Farm Bureau Cooperative of Norwalk was postponed in Huron County Common Pleas Court. Norwalk attorney Britton D Young who died Monday was to have represented Maerkisch.

Police Say Man Hindered Probe In Elyria Case

Raymond A. Henley, 33, of Elyria, was jailed by Norwalk police on hindering a police officer. He gave false information while investigators looked into two Norwalk drug stores where two young men allegedly bought cough syrup with codeine. Henley was with three youths, ages 22 and 19, who were not charged after being cleared.

Norwalk Lawyer Britton Young Dies After Brief Illness

Britton Dennis Young 54 longtime Norwalk attorney died at Fisher Titus Hospital after a brief illness. He lived at 141 West Main Street and was the fourth generation in his family to enter law in Norwalk. Survivors include his widow Ruth three sons Britton D Jr Ross B Mick and Stephen M at home one daughter Anna Pamelia two sisters and a brother U S District Judge Don J Young. Funeral arrangements are handled by Kubach Smith Funeral Home with private services and no calling hours.
