Tar price spike prompts emergency road sealant switch
Huron County Commissioners passed an emergency resolution allowing the county engineer to buy a liquid bituminous tar without bids after Licking Emulsion of Newark raised its price from 52.9 to 59.2 cents per gallon. The county will use a different tar sealant costing about 47.2 cents per gallon to avoid rising oil costs and EPA rules.
