Prisoner Hijacks Transcontinental Liner to Cuba
A 32 year old bank robber took control of a Trans World Airlines jet near Tulsa after asking to use the bathroom. Lester Perry forced cockpit access with a razor and wine bottle, coerced the captain toward Havana, but Cuban guards boarded and removed him as passengers remained aboard. The 131 on board were returned to the U.S. with the plane landing late. Captain J L Wilmot said he was unaware of the prisoner on board.

Milan Bridge Restoration Cost Faces High Price Tag
Erie County Engineer Kenneth A. Palta told Milan residents that restoring the old U.S. 250 bridge near Milan could cost up to 150000 dollars with a new permanent bridge at 100000 plus 16000 to remove the old structure and 15000 to 20000 for approach repairs. He noted only token federal aid may be available and a full engineering study is needed before deciding on relocation. Palta warned the Fries Landing restoration will be the county’s most expensive, with potential relocation costs near 1 million dollars and 10 bridges destroyed in the July 4 storm. He said all work must be under contract within a year to qualify for aid.
