City expects federal flood aid below its estimate
Estimators from the U S Army Corps of Engineers will recommend funds somewhat under Norwalk's preliminary 857 000 request. City officials led by Service Director William V Mount and state Rep Art Bonar reviewed figures, with Mount calling the results favorable though below the original guesstimate. Officials expect final figures late today and plan to apply them through state and Civil Defense channels for distribution. The city also seeks 45 000 from the County Municipal Road Fund for the Pleasant Street Bridge repairs, funded by the 1969 license plate tax. County commissioners voiced no obstacle to funding, as Bureau of Public Roads inspectors assess more than 30 bridges.
