Weather concerns in key Soviet grain producing areas prompt officials to flag potential crop worries despite good overall winter grain performance. The Foreign Agriculture Service notes below normal precipitation in major regions could affect output.

The family of Norwalk resident Le Thi Chanh Myers, including her mother, four sisters, and a brother, is evacuated to Guam among 130000 Vietnamese refugees. Alan Myers plans to bring them to Norwalk under relatives of US Citizens provisions. officials say rehabilitation centers will aid refugees.
An Oberlin man Howard M. Jones Sr. 44 died at Fisher Titus Memorial Hospital after a collision at the Ohio 601 and U S 20 junction. His son Howard M. Jones Jr. 19 was in the car and survived. The other driver William C. McQuillen 32 from rural Ashland was in critical condition with head and facial injuries. The crash remains under investigation. Reginald M. Jones 7 was also in the Jones car and treated at the hospital. Salvation Army volunteers aided at the scene.
Sheriff John Borgia said a string of southern Huron County thefts and break-ins were solved by day and night work by Sgt. Stanley Borgia. Four juveniles aged 16 and 17 from Greenwich Willard and North Fairfield are in custody, with three held at the county juvenile center.
Theodore H. White, in Readers Digest, portrays Nixon as increasingly erratic after July 31 1974, with Chief of Staff Alexander Haig acting as de facto president to persuade resignation. White notes a critical tape transcript spurred the move and warns of triggering a defensive reaction.
President Ford called for repealing fair trade laws to save consumers about 2 billion dollars yearly. He opposed creating a new consumer agency, arguing it would add costly federal bureaucracy. Don J. McIntyre, Erie County schools superintendent, resigns to lead Franklin County schools. His move is effective July 31 after four years in Erie. He previously supervised four Toledo area counties for special education and lives in Milan with wife Jacque and children Kevin and Michelle. Franklin County has seven districts and 25,270 students.
