Ohio for the first time permits 17 year olds to vote in a state primary for candidates if they will be 18 by the general election. Secret ary of State Ted W. Brown said eligible 17 year olds may vote in the June 3 primary if registered by May 5 and meet residency and citizenship requirements.
Gov. James A. Rhodes signed immediate legislation prohibiting 21 year olds from buying beer or liquor for someone aged 18 to 21. The change closes a loophole created when adulthood was lowered to 18, which had technically allowed such transfers under prior law.

David Opper 27 of Huron fell from a 15 foot scaffold while installing vinyl siding at Adria's Beauty Salon 73 West Main Street. He was taken to Fisher Titus Memorial Hospital in satisfactory condition. Opper works for Ed Beier and Associates of Norwalk. Police say the scaffold had no safety keepers.
