Suspect Arson In Auto Blaze

The Arson Bureau of the State Fire Marshall's Office will be called to investigate a car fire in a field off Gibbs Road. The Dodge convertible, owned by Tom Farmer of Norwalk, was stolen from Red's Bar in Sandusky between 11:30 p.m. Saturday and 1:10 a.m. Sunday. Deputy reports indicate slow-speed off-road entry and nearby tire tracks. an empty lighter fluid can was found in the wreck. Sheriff John Borgia said the arson bureau would be contacted.

Two 18Year-Olds Nabbed After Monroeville Norwalk High Speed Chase

An 18 year old driver and passenger from Wayne Michigan were arrested after a chase reaching 115 mph on US 20 between Monroeville and Norwalk. They admitted the car was stolen and faced charges of resisting arrest and possible interstate transportation of a stolen vehicle.

Six Die in Ohio Weekend Traffic Toll Rises

An United Press International tally reports 31 accidental deaths over the weekend across Ohio. Fatalities include six in a rain slick crash on Ohio 54 in Clark County, four teens and two adults in a crash near South Vienna, three Wilmington College students near Hillsboro on Ohio 73, a Chardon mother and daughter on Ohio 322, and a Pennsylvania woman with infant on Ohio 14.

Bridge on West Main Street Declared Safe by State Official

State Highway Department bridge engineer William Watkins said the West Main Street span over the Norfolk and Western Railway carries 114 percent of the legal load, contradicting rumors of condemnation. Five Windows Broken At Maplehurst School

Five windows were broken at Maplehurst School this morning. A golf ball was found inside one room but investigators did not confirm if the ball caused all the breakages. Holes measured two to four inches in diameter with three on the north side and two on the east side of the building.

Fire Destroys Rural Home For Nine People Near Sandusky

A 3:30 am blaze on Harris Road nine miles southwest of Sandusky forced John Bennett his wife Ruby and six children aged 3 to 17 to flee in nightclothes. The two story house was a total loss with only a metal box purses and salvaged clothing recovered.

Shelby Teen Guilty in Beer Case Linked to Break-Ins

An 18 year old Shelby man Robbie Deskens pleaded guilty in Juvenile Court to acting to contribute to delinquency of a minor by providing beer to youths aged 12 to 15 who carried out break ins in the Willard area. Judge Russell T. Antrim sentenced Deskens to 90 days in jail and a $100 fine, with 75 days and the fine suspended contingent on two years’ probation and staying away from Huron County and anyone under 18 except relatives.

Abandon Head Start Plan Stalls in Harom County

Harom County officials halted a federal Head Start program for low income preschoolers after local time constraints and funding deadlines. Hilda Oxley says the idea is not dead, plans to hire a director and coordinate with anti poverty and school officials for a county wide effort.

Firemen End Four Day Strikes On PRR Trains

Firemen of the Pennsylvania Railroad returned to work ending a four day strike that idled 32,000 workers and disrupted freight and passenger service.
