West Center State College Hosts Open House This Week
West Center of Chicago State College at 500 N. Pulaski holds two open houses this week to showcase the newly opened senior college facility. An educator and administrator open house runs 2 to 5 pm today, with guided tours and displays. Friday offers a student tea from 2 to 5 pm hosted by West Center students. Over 600 students study there, with 55 courses across undergraduate and graduate levels.

Events include ecumenical discussions with Roman Catholics and Protestants, a 3 p.m. Reformation Sunday invitation coffee reception, a 3:30 p.m. assembly with Bishop Hanns Lilje of Hanover, and the staging of A Hole In the Middle of Things at The Light Center. ONC to Hold Meeting on Forming New Community Organization
Fred Wrzesinski, chair of the Organization of Northwest Communities, invites Notre Dame High School attendees for a 7 p.m. October 29 session to decide if a neighborhood group is needed to unite churches, civic groups, business associations, and residents from Belmont to Crosstown. If approved, a community congress would draft a charter, elect leaders, and set the program. Wrzesinski notes ONC is a doing organization, not a formal group, and says issues were found through local collaboration. Aldermen Aiello and Laskowski have accused ONC of being outsider driven, an accusation disputed by ONC’s Nicholas Schmitz and other backers who emphasize progress on zoning, Crosstown, and neighborhood newspaper outreach.

Marvin L. Houle reports his bicycle stolen by two youths Thursday in Shakespeare's alley behind 1714 N Sawyer. One struck him with wood, causing a cut under his eye. About 90 minutes later he spotted one rider on his bike near 3226 Wabansia, called out, and the rider fled.

Garfield Park Community hospital at 3821 Washington opened a new maternity ward on the sixth floor with a rainbow designed interior and views of downtown and the park. First patient Mrs. John Thorsen welcomed twins, a boy John and a girl Jeanette, weighing 4 pounds 9 ounces and 4 pounds 8 ounces. Attending physician is Dr Carl H. Resnick. administrator Jack Garwin and nurse designer Mrs Catherine Seybert led the project.

Parents to Receive Medal for Son Killed in Viet Nam
Army Specialist William M. Geier will be posthumously awarded the Silver Star for bravery. The ceremony for his parents Mr and Mrs Jack M Geier will be at Fort Sheridan at 11 a.m. Saturday. Geier was killed June 19 in Viet Nam and the family previously lived at 3913 North before moving to Maywood two years ago.

Arrest Clears Up 60 Thefts
Austin district officers Tony Kessinke and John Dowling stopped Fernando Rodriguez after spotting a man and car matching a police bulletin. Rodriguez posed as a workman to break into unoccupied homes over five months and was overpowered when he drew a gun. The arrest helped clear more than 60 burglaries on the West-Northwest Side.
