An army of spooks hobgoblins clowns cowboys witches and other creatures are expected to invade Humboldt Park on All Hallows Eve. The assault on the fieldhouse is described by informed sources as imminent and festive in tone.
A police report covering September 14 through October 11 shows overall crime up 4.5 percent from the previous year, while crimes against property rise 4.5 percent and serious crimes against persons fall 4.9 percent for the period. West-Northwest districts like Fillmore, Austin, and Shakespeare show notable increases, with Halloween events planned at the park including a two hour children’s party, costume contest, and pumpkin carving.
Bethel Evangelical Lutheran holds 450th Reformation anniversary services at Hirsch and Springfield over two Sundays October 29 and November 5 German services at 9 a.m. English at 10 30 a.m. Bethel Lutheran School children to take part in the Sunday English service. A communion service follows at 7 30 p.m.
Children eligible to enjoy ice cream and candy are invited to a Halloween party at Mozart Playground starting 7 p.m. Tuesday. Community questions about ONC sparked discussion on trust, funding, and integration. The group aims to form a federated local organization for neighborhood conservation and improved youth adult relations.
The fall gym program for girls at Humboldt Park 1400 N Sacramento is under way with volleyball tumbling stunts trampoline dodge ball and indoor field hockey. Girls 14 and under may enter the two hit volleyball tournament while 17 and under may join senior one hit volleyball. Enrollment for instruction or team play is open daily 4 to 10 pm and activities run Tuesdays and Thursdays 4 to 6 pm with team practice by group.
