Jasper County Telephone Co is upgrading with a large toll and rural line switch board to handle out of town business, ten new rural lines serving 300 farmers, two main switch board sections adding 100 connections each for 600 total, and a copper toll line from Grinnell to Des Moines. The upgrades disrupt service briefly, but are near completion. Newton claims to have the finest exchange for a city its size.
