Born in Pennsylvania she had lived in Iowa over forty eight years with eleven in Newton. She leaves a husband daughter Ruth and two parents. Funeral services were held in the Baptist church and a second service planned at the Congregational church.

Newell a respected Christian resident of Jasper County He died at his West Marion street home on Saturday afternoon April 12 aged 73 years 7 months He was born in Armstrong County Pennsylvania September 13 1828 and lived much of his life in Davenport Iowa and Kellogg later moving to Newton with his wife Frank A Powell They had ten children five survive with their mother Walter E Herbert E and Howard S Newell Mrs Robert K Larimer and Katharine B Newell Funeral services were held Monday at the Presbyterian church with Rev R F Chambers in charge and a choir quartet performing The large attendance included relatives and friends from Sully Mitchellville and Grinnell

Born December 2, 1883 in the city, she was 18 years 4 months and 13 days old and a Christian church member active in Sabbath School. The Monday History Club held its annual banquet at the Churchill with about sixty attendees. After plates from Mr Weaver’s menu, the program in the parlors included songs by Omm ar Parker and I L Boyden, a recitation by A K Lufkin, and a tribute to Women by G F Rinehart. Mrs H R Andrew closed with an initial description talk. A social hour followed and the group departed near midnight.

Tramps Cause Near Fire in Joe Kennedy Block
Early Thursday morning two strangers asked for breakfast in the Manning suite above the billard parlor. They fled after refusal, smoke soon filled the hall, flames reached the adjoining rooms, but quick work by Mr. Manning with water saved the suite. The blaze appeared from a burning stump of a cigar or match.

A Fine Entertainment at Christian Church in Newton
Rev E F Leake headlined a literary and musical program at the Christian church last Wednesday evening. Miss Oberman sang a sacred solo with a rich contralto tone, Lettie Earley and EF Earley performed solos, and Mrs Reeves accompanied on piano. The highlight was the vocal duet Roses Kissed by the Sunshine by Lettie and Mattie Earley. The church was crowded and the audience gave hearty encores to each number.
