Telegram reports the death of L Albee at his daughter Mrs Arthur Moss home in Cedar Rapids at 10 30 Tuesday night After visiting his ill daughter he contracted pneumonia his sons Will Albee and Charlie Albee were with him John was in Idaho and unreachable The remains were brought to Newton at 3 o clock yesterday Funeral arrangements not yet set a fuller notice to follow next week
Monroe native and Jasper county pioneer photographer John R Hall purchased the vacant lot south of the Jasper County Bank near the new Baptist church in Newton for one thousand dollars. He plans a two story brick gallery this summer costing four to five thousand dollars and will move back to Newton, where he and Mrs Hall will be warmly greeted by old friends.
Col. Kinkead spoke on Shiloh to a mainly veteran audience at the opera house last Wednesday night. The talk recalled memories of the 1862 battle, though the lecturer faced difficulty with his voice and aging fragility while delivering the age‑old tale.
Master Charlie Trafton turned twelve on the 15th and a cheerful party gathered at the Trafton home for an evening of fun. Mrs. Trafton laid on a birthday supper, with guests including Miss Fuente Blair Ethel Jack Mildred Pargmenter and Masters Claude Morrow Juckenberry Don Hunter Ira Phillips and Harry Bergman.
Mrs Henry K Warren reported a burglary at her home while absent and missing a gold locket with her husband’s portrait from fifty years ago. Zach Hixson found the locket on the sidewalk before the Congregational church and, recognizing the notice in the RECORD, returned it to the grateful owner.
Grinnell remains ahead of Newton by a margin that widens its lead beyond 40 cents in total annual receipts. Newton nearly matches Grinnell with a close finish, trailing by about 30 to 40 cents overall for the year.
The Pucines Men's Association in Lae Py endorses a special election to authorize a private company to install a water system along Skunkriver. The council will consider adopting a resolution and scheduling the franchise vote next year.
