Urbana volunteers bolster festival to fund fire service
Urbana volunteers man food booths and events at the Urbana Festival to raise funds for the Urbana Volunteer Fire and Rescue department. Chief Jim May notes the festival relies on fundraisers as the department receives no county funds. Volunteers endure long days, with July carnival the biggest effort, generating about seventy thousand dollars in food sales while hosting 30 to 34 banquets and two public dinners annually.
