Stress From Technology Boosts Job Demands Across Workforce
A 1992 survey finds four in ten workers view their jobs as very or extremely stressful amid downsizing and higher workloads. Cellular phones and pagers are widespread, with 25 million users for cell phones and 27.3 million pagers nationwide. Experts note technology extends the workday and blurs home and work life, while others argue it can streamline tasks. Downturns raise job security fears and push for greater productivity with less pay.
