Fire log shows a vehicle fire at 2:35 p.m. on Waynesboro Pike near Emmitsburg with Emmitsburg Ambulance responding. During the past 24 hours ending 8 p.m. ambulances logged 15 emergencies and 1 routine call.
State police arrested Terry Lee Marana and Kevin Vincent Eckenrade after finding marijuana and drug paraphernalia in their disabled car on Interstate 70 near Myersville. The Alexandria, Virginia pair, both 25 and 27, were taken to the county detention center and released on bond.
Tonight variable clouds with near 40 degree lows and 10 mph winds. Friday mostly cloudy with a 30 percent shower chance and highs in the low 50s. Mountain areas: near 4 degrees tonight and 1 mph winds, Friday 45 to 50 with 10 mph winds. A First National Bank of Maryland branch in Hagerstown was robbed of undisclosed cash by a white male 30 to 35 years old wearing blue clothing and a bandana. He displayed a silver handgun, fled through the back, and police with sheriff’s units searched for two hours without locating a suspect. A bank camera recorded the robbery. a photo will be released after processing. Earlier a similar Keymar bank robbery occurred a week prior with a suspect later arrested.
A one day Frederick County grand jury returned no criminal indictments after its probe into one matter. Prosecutor Alan L. Winik said the panel will reconvene later this year for a second matter under secrecy and stressed that indictments and arrests follow only after due process.
Dr. Anne Derbes of Hood College attended the 16th century studies conference in Tempe Arizona presenting "Heroine or Courtesan Simonette Vespucci and Cleopatra" in a Renaissance women session. The conference gathered scholars from literature history and art.
A Frederick woman, Judith Alderton, 45, remained in serious but stable condition at a Baltimore hospital after her Toyota crossed the median on Interstate 270 near Baker Valley Road at 9 21 a m Thursday and collided head on with Kenneth Anderson 52 of Rockport W Va in the Plymouth Fury Rescue personnel airlifted Alderton to the Maryland Institute for Emergency Medical Services Systems in Baltimore Anderson was treated and released from Frederick Memorial Hospital The reason for Alderton turning into the median was not given according to police report
