Washington Suburban Sanitary Panel Seeks Patuxent Dam
The Washington Suburban Sanitary Commission formally sought authority to build a 130 foot high dam and reservoir on the Patuxent River at Rocky Gorge to augment water for Washington suburban communities. The project would create about 1,000,000,000 gallons of storage, cover 774 acres, require 2,200 acres for the impoundment, and aim for completion by July 1, 1953 with bids on buttress slab and gravity dam types. No objections were filed though Howard County requested assurances of water access, and provisions for fish passage were discussed.

States push atomic energy as main weapon plan
McMahon argued an atomic program would save defense costs up to 30 billion dollars yearly and require 5 to 6 billion more annually beyond current spending. He claimed no limit to U S production of A bombs given time and decision and that mass production would make a bomb cheaper than a tank.
