Prize Winning Potato Chips From Burkittsville By Sowers
Mrs. Harry Sowers of Burkittsville has made prize winning potato chips for about 44 years. Each day she starts at sunrise, uses a backyard building as a fry house, and cans chips in large lard cans. She chips, fries, and stores them, sharing with family, church groups, and local sales. Her technique evolved from drying slices on cloth to using large cans, and she continues to produce chips for events, relatives, and neighbors.
