Blue Mountain Express back for one day big train run
More than 1400 passengers are to ride the 1963 Blue Mountain Express from Baltimore to Cumberland sponsored by the Baltimore Chapter of the National Railway Historical Society. Two sections, eight extra cars, and two diners per train meet heavy demand with stops at Glyndon Westminster Thurmont Hagerstown Union Bridge and a special stop for a school group. No more tickets remain.

Carroll Manor and Hyatts Town volunteers fought the blaze with about six pieces of equipment as flames nearly reached a nearby house. American Legions Begin Annual Toy Drive Saturday
Underprivileged children are the focus as American Legion Posts in this city and Thurmont launch their yearly toy collection drives this Saturday at 9 a.m. with house-to-house canning aided by Boy Scouts. Last year nearly 6,500 toys were collected for about 1,500 children from 250 families. The Frederick workshop at 100 East Second Street operates Mondays and Thursdays, repairing donated toys. Thurmont volunteers, led by Commander Mervin Green, will also canvass with local Boy Scouts to gather and repair toys for distribution at Christmas.
