The State Roads Commission has put U S 15 into use between Lewistown and Catoctin Furnace with final adjustments planned into next month. The old road is closed at Catoctin Furnace while grading and a new right angle intersection are completed, and crossovers are placed for safety as grading and soil work proceed toward completion next year.

Frederick County Receives 66095 21 From Smoke Tax Share
Comptroller Louis L. Goldstein announced Frederick County will get 66095 21 this month as its share of Maryland's cigarette tax for the first quarter of fiscal 1964, slightly above last year’s comparable period. State collections for the quarter totaled 3 018 981 59, up from 2 803 015 90 a year earlier, with neighboring counties also listed. Goldstein noted a historic peak in motor fuel tax receipts, exceeding six million dollars in a single month for August 1963 and September 1963, totaling more than twelve million dollars in the two months, credited to more out of state visitors.

Cars Upset In Separate Accidents In U S 340 And U S 240
Two one car crashes within hours left cars demolished after rolling over. In the 12:50 a.m. crash on U S 340 near Charles Town West Virginia resident Dewey T. Gardner 45 was pinned and later treated at Frederick Memorial Hospital. Gardner was charged with reckless driving. The 11:15 p.m. crash on U S 240 near Urbana involved Larry Angle of Waynesboro Pennsylvania whose 1956 Pontiac overturned after leaving the road. Angle was uninjured and no charges were filed.
