Purnell Out Then He Goes Back In Again

Benton Harbor reports on Benjamin Franklin Purnell the 69 year old leader of the House of David colony. He was seized by state police from his quarters and released on 50 000 bond then rearrested when a retrial court found the bond unsatisfactory. Bonds totaling 120 000 were posted by eight Benton Harbor businessmen as charges of criminal assault were brought by two former girl members. The feeble old man, aided by his wife Queen Mary, preaches a doctrine that he is the brother of the Savior, a belief that has driven the colony’s history since their 23 years in the Kentucky hills and subsequent move to Detroit.
