St Johns opened the City League season at Cadet Field with a victory over an unnamed opponent. Hurling duels between OBebb Wiles and Gardner shaped a tight contest through several innings, with key plays including Lew Gavndne’s run and Tom Kennedy’s contributions. The scattered, garbled line of play-by-play hints at a close game and a favorable outcome for St Johns.
New York May 21 Babe Ruth belted his fifteenth homer of the season in the fifth inning against St. Louis, celebrating a long season start. The report mentions Gardner and Wiles, with Gardner credited for a base on balls and Seurer-Cuttinger as umpires in the game. The piece also includes unrelated notes on deep sea diving oxygen nitrogen mixtures and a stray line about the Starling bird.

This double penalty deters catchers from abusing interference in steals.
The Belmont Park meeting for Westchester Racing Association opens, alongside Kentucky Jockey Club in Louisville.
