Self Employed Under Social Security Law
Hagerstown May 12 according to W S King manager of the Hagerstown Social Security office there is some misunderstanding of the self employed persons obligations under the amended Social Security act. Old age and survivor insurance is not optional for people who are working for themselves in their own trade or business or as partners in such enterprises. If you are self employed and delay as much as $400 in net profit from your business in any taxable year after December 31 1950 your Social Security coverage becomes compulsory by law. Exceptions include income from self employment owner operator of an agricultural enterprise and self employment income from practice as physician lawyer dentist osteopath chiropractor optometrist nature path veterinarian architect CPA licensed registered or full time practicing public accountant Christian Science practitioner professional engineer or funeral director.
