Expenses A Problem For Rescue Mission

Walter A. Houghton, superintendent of the Frederick Union Rescue Mission, told the Lions Club the facility at 200 S. Market St. struggles to cover annual operating costs of 40 000 to 45 000 dollars without government subsidies. He noted the mission has stayed open eight years, relies 60 percent on sold goods, serves 13 000–15 000 meals monthly, and houses about 17 men weekly in a three story building. He called for local community help and donations of clothing and money, and urged support for future women’s facilities.
