Conservative challenger labels Byron less than true conservative
Dr John Vandenberge a 49 year old Ellicott City dentist told the Middletown Valley Republican Women’s Club he is a more conservative choice than Rep Beverly Byron. He cited Byron’s 50 percent alignment with Reagan and her votes against Gramm Rudman and the Strategic Defense Initiative as evidence she is not truly conservative. He noted GOP support from national committees and predicted a campaign budget over 250000 with Byron facing a persistent Republican challenge since she took office in 1978.
