A two week Laos dig uncovered remains and personal effects believed linked to 44 Air Force crewmen aboard an AC-130 shot down March 29, 1972. Senior Master Sergeant James Kenneth Caniford of Frederick, 24, was aboard the gunship. Remains and gear were recovered and will be analyzed at Fort Shafter, Hawaii, with positively identified names to be released later.

Two Montgomery Boys Contract Meningitis Strain
Two eighth grade boys at Redland Middle School in Rockville have contracted a bacterial form of meningitis and were hospitalized. Health Director Dr. Donald Swetter cautioned it is not as easily spread as Type A, but remains serious if not diagnosed and treated promptly. The boys, who were wrestling partners, attended class together. Two additional cases were reported in January at Baker Intermediate and Montgomery Village Junior High. School officials and nurses inspected contacts as notes went home to parents. The first case was confirmed last Thursday and the disease symptoms include fever, vomiting, stiff neck, and headache.
