New Powers Are Sought By Brannan

Secretary Brannan asked Congress to grant broad marketing quotas beyond six crops to most farm products including meat, dairy, eggs, fruits and vegetables. Quotas would limit sales with a 50 percent penalty tax for excess, and would require two-thirds producer approval. Brannan also proposed storage aid of 10 cents a bushel to store 1948 crop corn and similar restorage programs for wheat oats and barley to ease storage capacity.
