Reports of severe pea aphid damage were dismissed by major packers as untrue, but root rot from May rains could reduce yields in parts of Frederick and Adams counties. Pea canning will start next week with Thomas and Company at Gaithersburg Monday, Jenkins Bros. at Thurmont Tuesday, and a month long season ahead. Some peas for Gaithersburg come from Adamstown and will be shelled there before moving on. The season runs later than normal due to cold wet planting conditions.
