Arts Center funding question in Maryland budget debates

Maryland lawmakers and arts leaders debated Delaplaine Visual Arts Center funding with a $200,000 start up grant in the past and a proposed $500,000 for building renovations at 5 Carroll Street funded by capital improvement bonds. The plan required the center to raise about $800,000 in matching funds within a year, unlikely to occur. A truancy enforcement bill was also advanced, proposing up to $50 daily fines or 30 days imprisonment for parents of chronically absent students, moving to the House Constitutional and Administrative Law Committee.
