Governor's doomsday budget could close Maryland School for the Deaf
Governor Schaefer proposes a doomsday budget with no new taxes balanced by cuts that would close the Maryland School for the Deaf two campuses in Frederick and Columbia. MSD Superintendent Denton condemns the option as unthinkable, stressing the school's cultural role and sign language identity. If enacted, local school systems would assume MSD's functions, marking a major education shift.
