State To Buy Power From Hagerstown
The Board of Public Works approved a five year power contract for the Western Maryland Chronic Disease Hospital in Hagerstown with the City of Hagerstown and Potomac Edison Co. The state says the annual cost will be about 11000 and assures uninterrupted service. Potomac Edison protested the switch, arguing the city firm is better positioned to supply reliable power and that the decision diverts taxpayer money from a private utility. The change follows the hospital’s first five years of operation and comes as the state moves to support local infrastructure and crime-fighting efforts.
