Firefighters seek help as insurance costs rise
Clarence Jewell III chair of the association’s insurance committee told Frederick County commissioners that liability insurance rates for the county’s 26 fire and rescue companies may rise 35 to 30 percent next year. The current year bill exceeds $250,000 and fire trucks insurance forms the largest share. The county already grants per company and provides extra aid based on households served.

Bloodmobile visit set this week at Fort Detrick
The Red Cross Bloodmobile will visit the Fort Detrick Community Club on Thursday and Friday from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Donors including civilian employees, military personnel and families, and others on post are invited to give a pint. All blood types are needed, especially O positive and O negative, to support Shock Trauma Centers. Donors must be in good health, weigh at least 110 pounds, and be at least 17 years old with no maximum age limit. Bring Red Cross donor cards. eight weeks between donations required.
